Tips to avoid failure with your 2021 New Year’s Resolution.

I think first and foremost this past year has been a very stressful one for everybody. So to start out this conversation, like most people, I’ve found that many of my New Year’s resolutions seem to fail within the first month. Statistic show that 80% of these resolutions are forgotten by the second week in February, but more amazing, 25% of people give up within the first week. Not good odds if you think about it. Looking back at my previous attempts of sticking with my resolution, I pretty much fall in category # 1. I decided that my resolutions were either not realistic, nor did I set a plan on how to achieve the goal. Like most people, we have great aspirations of quitting smoking, starting a new exercise plan or the most popular of all is the vow to lose weight. While all these are great ideas, we don’t fully think about what it will actually take to achieve these goals.

The problem is not so much with the goal itself, but that we have no accountability when the goal is not met, or that we lose focus of the actual goal and expect perfection right from the get go. The easiest way to make and then keep your resolution is to set a goal that is realistic to achieve and to not be discouraged when we stray from the goal. Nobody’s perfect! Something we all need to learn. It’s okay to admit failure now and then, especially when issues arise that are out of our control. For example, if you set a goal to go to the gym 2-4 times a week and newly acquired aches and pains are making it difficult to stick with your routine, then try applying CBD ointment into your sore joints every day. This simple solution could make the gym experience less agonizing and more enjoyable. If you realize the diet plan you started isn’t right for you, small adjustments make a world of difference and can keep you motivated without feeling defeated.
